Take the Spotlight” is the fictional story of Artie Rain, a Dallas, Texas, film director who has been hired by two Dallas-based film producers to direct a movie about human trafficking. With their backing and funding for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Artie embraces the challenge with maniacal zeal, compromising family, friends, and others involved in the film to fulfill his dream to take the spotlight. Unavoidable circumstances, both on the set and off, however, challenge Artie to compromise his approach, beliefs, and integrity.

WHAT: Red Carpet screening of “Take the Spotlight,” the latest film by the makers of “The Okra Principle,” “Mystery of Birds,” and “Night to Fly.” “Take the Spotlight” has previously been screened at several film festivals throughout the United States.

WHO: Shot in Dallas, produced by Handem Productions and That Kid Productions, written and directed by Nnaemeka Andrew “Drew” Madueke and showcasing a diverse cast of DFW talent including a cameo by Jose “J-Si” Chavez from “The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show.” Special appearances by Hollywood actress Lynn Whitfield (“Eve’s Bayou” and “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate”) and Hollywood actor Glenn Morshower (“Transformers,” “24,” and “Moneyball”), and international actor Chinedu “Aki” Ikedieze.

7:30-8 p.m. Musical selections from the film will be performed by a live orchestra, conducted by SMU alumni Jesus Martinez, composer of the original score for “Take the Spotlight.”

8 p.m. Dallas lyricist Miss Keke will debut her music video, “Take the Spotlight,” the title song from the original soundtrack, followed by the movie screening at 8:05.
